Finally mastered the art of false eyelashes ... *Eylure Review*

Sunday, 19 June 2011

I am so jealous of the girlies out there who can just slap on the false eyelashes at the drop of a hat! You'll find me huddled around a selection of different mirrors with spidery lashes slipping and sliding across my face and only fixing to the middle of my lash line :(

I was despairing at my idiocy with fake eyelashes and after trying different types (and wasting many in a fit of rage blackouts) I went trotting along to Boots in a quest to conquer the art of full and fluttering eyelashes!

I was greeted with a wide selection - i have a nice big Boots local to me :) and was pleased to find Eylure lashes on offer (3 for 2) so picked up a great collection to start me off.

On Saturday we were having a birthday BBQ for the bf and then heading out to watch our friends band play so i decided this would be my ideal chance to try and pull off gorgeous glam lashes so without further a-do lets get on with the review ...

Eylure Ready to Wear lashes - 070:

I took the easy route and went for pre-glued lashes. I thought this would give me time to make sure they are securely fixed to my lashline and in the right position without having to fiddle around with glue and getting in a sticky-icky mess. This turned out to be a wise choice :)

The lashes were easy to apply and i didn't need to cut them down to size. Looking back now i would maybe trim them ever so slightly before my next wear but i mean taking off a minuscule amount!

I lined the false set of lashes up against my lashline and teased into place. I then applied a little pressure to the corners of the lashes for about 10 seconds with the handles from my tweezers to make sure they were on securely (i really didn't want to find spidery lashes in my burger or drink later in the day!)

And tadaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Kirsti can now wear false eyelashes :) :) i am so pleased and i think they looked fab!

next time i'll need to fill in my eyeliner a bit better but apart from that ....

They stayed on all day/night (roughly 12 hours) and didn't irritate my eyes at all. The only downside i encountered was that the inside corner of my left lash wasn't as sticky as the rest of the lashes so did come unstuck slightly but i just applied a bit of pressure with the tweezers again and all was fine :)

These lashes come with a spare glue strip so i can see these lasting me quite a while and the instruction and care leaflet is a great easy to follow guide.

Eylure lashes retail at around £5.19 (in Boots) and are currently on 3 for 2. I picked up another set from the 'Ready to Wear' pre-glued range (116) which are slightly more fuller and also a set of the Naturalites Natural Volume (020) which are nice and subtle.

Have you tried the Ready to Wear Eylure range? Are you a dab hand at falsies or totally incompetent like me?

Eyeko 3 in 1 Cream - Highlighter, Moisturiser and Eye Cream *Review*

Wednesday, 4 May 2011

Today i'm going to do a little review of the Eyeko Limited Edition 3 in 1 Cream.

This little pot is a moisturiser, eye cream and highlighter in one with added Vitamin E and natural Jojoba. Eyeko say that the cream is ideal to use as a base under foundation or to wear on its own.

The Eyeko Cream comes in a cute little pink box decorated with sketches of their logo and the product itself. I was really impressed with the box and couldnt wait to see what the pot inside was like and then i was hit with a plain, unimaginative tub. Its pink with a simple 'Eyeko Cream' logo which you can see in my pics.

The product itself is a pearly pink marshmallow colour and has a thick consistency. I dont know about you but one of the first things i do when i get a new beauty product (especially ones i'm putting on my skin) is give them a great big sniff! and what hits me with the Eyeko Cream is that it has a funny smell that i cant quite put my finger on. Its definitely not sweet, for some reason it reminds me of a glue sort of smell :/ this made me apprehensive about putting it on my face but i soldiered on....

A good thing about this product is that a little goes a long way which is great as the pot is quite small. The cream sinks in quickly and leaves the face matte feeling but illuminated looking. A little note is that the cream is slightly sticky when first applying.

When using this as a primer the foundation application is nice and goes on smooth however once dry my faced looked quite cakey especially around the mouth and nose but this could just be that i have dry skin.

I havent found it to be very hydrating so wouldnt use this as a moisturiser but it does make a nice highlighter and i think it'd be nice to wear on holiday by itself for a nice dewy, glow look.

All in all this product wasnt a success for me but it may work for you. This was one of my first Eyeko products but hasnt put me off trying more in the future.

Have you tried any Eyeko products? Whats your fave?

Top 5 Mascara's

Wednesday, 9 February 2011

I have been on a quest for the perfect mascara for as long as i can remember. If i was to create a mascara of my very own it would be ultra pitch black in colour, have a huge curved wand while extending, thickening, and adding volume and curl like a pair of false eyelashes. As you can see I'm expecting a lot from the average high street mascara!

I have stepped up my game recently and went on a bit of a mascara mission and tried out a number of different ones in a small space of time so i thought it would be the ideal time to write my first proper blog post and let you guys know what i think of them.

Top 5 Mascara's:

# 1. Rimmel - Volume Flash the Max Bold Curves - 001 Black

This mascara is my latest buy and in my opinion the closest i can get to ticking off everything of my wish list. Fantastic thick curved wand that gets a good coating of the mascara, fans out and separates the lashes while extending and adding volume. Doesn't flake, goes on super dark even with only one coat, stays put all day. Funky coloured tube - wont get lost in your make-up bag! RRP: £6.99
10/10

# 2. Maybelline - Great Lash - Blackest Black
This is an old classic that I've only recently discovered - my gosh! Wish i had found this years ago. Its colour - blackest black is true to its word and comes out nice and dark even with just one coat. It separates and lengthens and gives good coverage even though it only has a small wand. Funky coloured tube and a good price too - RRP is coming in at about £5 but if you're a bargain hunter like me you can pick this up for £2.99 on eBay!

# 3. 17 - Va Va Voom Volume Mascara - Black
Cheap inexpensive product, very good value for money! Really big thick wand, adds a lot of length to lashes and separates as well which you don't always get from the thick bristle wands. Only down sides to this mascara is that it doesn't add a lot of thickness/volume to lashes and its not as black as I'd like but all in all a great find. RRP: £6
7/10

# 4. Rimmel - Lash Accelerator - 001 Black
I was a little disappointed with this product but this might be because i fell for the advertising and believed it would make your lashes grow. In my opinion this hasn't worked. The wand was thinner than i had thought it would be but it does separate and adds length to lashes. Again not as black as I'd like but i think we've discovered that i like jet black lashes! I have been using this mascara as a base coat to add a bit of length and separate and then using one of the other ones featured here on top to add volume and definition. RRP: £8.99
6/10

# 5. Collection 2000 - Volume Sensation - Ultra Black
I was really disappointed with this mascara. Apart from waterproofs i have purchased in the past this is by far the worst. It does have a nice thick wand which i like and nice bright packaging but that's where the praise stops. When i first went to use this mascara it was sticky and hardly any came out of the tube (maybe i had one from a bad batch?) i had to heat the tube up myself to loosen the contents. The mascara does thicken the lashes but adds no length. The colour states 'Ultra Black' but this was definitely not a dark black. Looking forward to trying out some more Collection 2000 mascaras soon so hope i don't have the same problem! RRP: £4.99
 3/10

Special Mention:

Maybelline - The Falsies Volume Express - Black Waterproof
I've been using the Maybelline 'Falsies' mascara for almost a year now on and off. It is a decent mascara; it separates and adds length due to the curved wand but it does not thicken enough for my liking so have recently been using it on top of the Rimmel Lash Accelerator. I have found this mascara to flake quite a lot and although it says it is waterproof i have not found this to be true. RRP: £7.99
7/10

TIP: I am a huge bargain hunter - if there's a bargain to be had I'll sniff it out! So when there's a new mascara or make-up product that I'd like to try i always check eBay first. I have picked up a few of these much cheaper than on the high street - worth a look :)
