Go Blonder ...

Saturday 30 July 2011

I was recently asked if i would be interested in trying John Frieda's Go Blonder Lightening Spray and i jumped at the chance! I absolutely adore the John Frieda blonde hair care range and have been using their different shampoo's and conditioner's since i started bleaching my hair around 7 years ago!

I must admit i was a little apprehensive about using this product; firstly because i started using it just after i had my hair coloured and didn't want to mess up my expensive highlights but secondly because i thought it could just be a gimmick product and wouldn't actually do anything to lighten my hair ... (contradicting myself there totally!)

To quote the blurb on the box ... "Exclusive, versatile formula with citrus and chamomile works with blow-dryer heat to gradually lighten and brighten for a natural-looking, blonder blonde. Visibly lightens in 3-5 uses. Thermo-Protectant."

I simply sprayed the lightening product all over my hair paying particular attention to my roots.

Bit of background for you ... i recently switched from having all over bleach to having a darker shade of blonde and caramel highlights in a bid to combat horrid dark roots and to save the condition of my hair. I have a sort of shadow effect going on while the bleach grows out and my natural colour combined with the highlights is featured at the top of my head ... sort of a weird little ombre, no? ha

Anyways, back to the John Frieda Go Blonder Lightening Spray ...

I used the spray each time after washing on towel-dried hair (I used Aussie Aussome Volume shampoo and John Frieda Sheer Blonde Highlight Activating Moisturising conditioner, in case you were wondering) and then dried my hair with the hair-dryer and straightened my locks straight after.

excuse my very baggy lounging tee - i was being a sloth!

14.07.11 - first use - my natural mousey colour with bleach blonde and caramel highlights

I began to notice a difference in the colour of my roots on the third use. They were noticeably lighter and after consulting a friend we both agreed that they were more a caramel blonde colour rather than a dark, mousey blonde which they were to begin with.

Actually after the second use i had a few comments on my hair from work colleagues and family saying that my hair looked different but they couldn't pin down what it was.

18.07.11 - second use ...

I would definitely say my highlights are more enhanced since using this product and the colour of my roots have lightened quite a lot.

21.07.11 - starting to see a change

This is a great product to use to enhance the life of your blonde colouring between hair appointments.

I'm about half way through my bottle now and will definitely be repurchasing this when i run out!

25.07.11 - noticeably lighter - tones in with my caramel highlights nicely ...

28.07.11 - loving the colour, i wont need to visit the hairdresser for a while now ...

The John Frieda Go Blonder Lightening Spray retails at around £5.50 and can be found in Boots, Asda and many more outlets.

Be sure to check out the shampoo/conditioner to give your hair added omph! when lightening :)

Not suitable for use on medium brown or darker shades of hair.

Disclaimer: this product was sent to me by PR for consideration.

Has anyone else tried this product or any other John Frieda items?

Quick OOTD for you from Saturday.

We went to see Gallows for the second time this month and it was Frank Carters last show *big sigh and even bigger sad face*

The gig was awesome! It was super hot, super sweaty and the only alcoholic drink available to me was JD & Coke * oh hai there super cool rock chick, ha *

This is what i wore:

soz, the picture quality is not its best, i blame the photographer * thanks bf! *

Leather jacket - Primark
Grey eagle vest - Primark
Leggings - super old and holey * adds that rockstar edge ;) *
Biker boots - eBay
Tassel bag - New Look

Leopard nails - Barry M's Mushroom
Skull ring - eBay (it broke as i was getting ready :( still wore it though!)

Ok, so something different happened to my hair and i not quite sure what went wrong right.

As usual i backcombed, then sprayed a generous amount of Backcomb in a Bottle and then added Schwarzkopf's Volume powder for added texture and BOOF! my hair exploded in all its former emo glory!

loved it!!

So there we have it! Another quick OOTD with added Hair, Face and Nails of the Day thrown in, ha.

I also picked up a new Gallows tee at the gig but the one i wanted was only available in XL so i purchased in the hope of making this into a funky dress! .... If anyone has any cool (and easy!) ideas how i could go about this then please let me know :):)

I started my Christmas shopping in June!

I haven't kept in contact with anyone i went to school with.

Band of the week #3:

27 Club

Something a bit different this week ...

I recently decorated the bf's bedroom and the walls were looking a bit bare so i set myself the challenge of producing some funky artwork for his room like i did for my boudoir.

The bf has a bit of an obsession with the '27 Club' (famous musicians who have all tragically died at the young age of 27) so i decided to buy some frames and fill them with pics of Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Brian Jones ...

I bought 2 of these frames and as you can see i have room for 6 photos and only 5 members from the 27 Club.

This was until yesterday when the uber talented Amy Winehouse died. She has now been added to and will take pride of place in the final spot in my 27 Club artwork for the bf's bedroom.

So this week's band of the week goes to Forever 27 - i bet they're having a rocking party up in the clouds now!

Til next time ...

Pink lemonade ...

Tuesday 19 July 2011

Wanna know what my all time favourite lip product is?

.... No it's not my MAC Viva Glam Gaga or Chanel Glossimer. Its not Carmex, Blistex or Vaseline.

It's a £1.50 bargain from the lovely ELF Cosmetics !!

My all time favourite lip product is Luscious Liquid Lipstick in Pink Lemonade.

This lipstick was one of the very first items i picked up from ELF and i absolutely love it!

I love the long slim design of the packaging and that it's a twist pen with sponge application rather than the usual wand or bullet. The sponge tip applies nice and evenly.

The lipstick itself is more like a gloss which i prefer as i have quite dry lips and find traditional lipsticks to dry out my lips even more and leave flaked colour over them - not a good look :(

The lipstick is super moisturising, sweet tasting and long lasting - huge thumbs up there!

I chose the Pink Lemonade colour as it looked like a gorgeous mid pink/berry colour. When i first twisted the pen and the product bubbled out of the sponge i was a little apprehensive as it seemed much darker than that of the swatch from the website but this shade actually suits me perfectly and looks so natural (as you can see below).

I would highly recommend this product to everyone as its so easy and simple to apply and gives you great pigmentation - ideal for a casual day out or a ultra glam night!

I've already put a couple of these by for people for Christmas and gave one away in my 100 Followers Giveaway - clearly I'm impressed!

ELF Luscious Liquid Lipstick is currently available in 11 shades and retails at just £1.50!!

Have you tried any of the Luscious Liquid Lipsticks? What shade should i get next?

He was a skater boy, she said see ya later boy ...

Monday 18 July 2011

Today i needed to dress smart for work and thought it was a great opportunity to give my gorgeous new dress an airing :)

I've been lusting after a dress like this since i saw Frankie from The Saturdays wearing one similar and found this little gem on eBay (where else do i shop!?) I really wanted it in the stone colour but it was far too impractical for my job so i played it safe and went with the black.

Dress - £19.99 from eBay
Cardigan - Primark
Necklace - Dortothy Perkins
Belt - Primark

Frankie Sandford's version which inspired me ...

What do you think of my dress? Do you find many gem's on eBay?

Band of the week #2:

Kate Voegele

So this weeks 'Band of the Week' is actually an artist. One that i absolutely adore!

I first heard of Kate during Season 6 of One Tree Hill and then i started re-watching the boxsets from the beginning actually came to realise Kate Voegele and her music had been featured in OTH for quite a while.

I love her edgy attitude and fantastic 'rock chick' wardrobe. I love her pop/rock songs that are ever-so catchy. She's totally gorgeous too.

I'm desperate for Kate Voegele to come to the UK so i get a chance to see her :) but at the moment i will have to make-do with her brief appearances on One Tree Hill.

Please take time to check out her music - i definitely like to think of Kate Voegele as a hidden gem in my music collection that always brings a smile to my face when i listen to her stuff :)

Here's a little taster to get you started ...

That's it for this week's music intervention :p

Hope you enjoy

I finally found you, my missing puzzle piece ...

Thursday 14 July 2011

I finally took the plunge and now own my first OPI nail polish!!

I've been lusting after this particular shade for months but i just couldn't justify spending £10 on a nail polish :(

After scouring eBay night after night for a bargain but to no avail, i was close to giving up and trotting down to Boots to find myself a dupe  .... and then i found it!!

A gorgeous bottle of pink sparkles. Glittering and gleaming away like a penny in a wishing well ....

I am, of course, talking about Katy Perry's Limited Edition 'Teenage Dream' shade of OPI Nail Lacquer :)

I was a bit apprehensive about choosing a glitter nail polish, flashbacks to my 13 year old self getting ready for school disco's, but i shouldn't have worried.

The polish is a gorgeous sheer pale pink with heaps of glitter running through it. I used two coats which was suffice and left my nails gorgeous and frosted. The polish was thick and slightly gloopy but dried quickly.

I do love the finished look - so sparkly and the pink is a delightful princess pink colour that would look great against a white or black outfit.

I've seen pics of this shade used under a black shatter polish floating around on the net and I'm so going to be trying that :)

What OPI shade should i try next?
